Ah, that's interesting, I didn't think about problems arising from the
linking methodology my build scripts use.
I have built a new archive, ganymede-0.99.9a.tar.gz, using the GNU tar
--dereference option, which should give you a cleaner archive.
I haven't done any testing or debugging of this archive, and if your
filesystem doesn't support hard linking, some of the scripts that are
run to customize a Ganymede directory for installation may fail.
I'm afraid I'm running on only a few hours of sleep after having spent
a great many hours over the last 24 working on efforts towards a
Ganymede 1.0pre1 release, and I've got a lot of code strewn about all
over right now. I'll have to ask that you forgive my not yet having
taken the time to audit my build scripts to work in a non-link
environment.
I believe you'll be able to install the Ganymede server and client
without running the problematic scripts, but if you want to work on
the server or client source code and rebuild the jar files, you'll
likely run into problems with the linking.
The new archive is at
ftp://ftp.arlut.utexas.edu/pub/ganymede/ganymede-0.99.9a.tar.gz
Let me know how it goes. I'll be sure and get the build logic
reworked to take care of any problems you report by 1.0pre1.
| I just downloaded Ganymede 0.99.9 and tried to unTAR it. I get errors
| with the TAR. First there are hard links in some of the archive, which
| cannot be extracted when I unTAR to an AFS volume. Second there are sym
| links with references to
| /home/broccol/ganymede/release/ganymede-0.99.9.
|
| Is there a TAR archive available with sym links only and no references
| to absolute paths outside of the archive directory structure?
|
| We are interested very much in Ganymede. We have 300+ Unix systems and
| several thousand NT systems, which we are interested in finding a
| unified system of managing their NIS, DNS, etc files.
