Gaurav, again, please send questions of this kind to
ganymede-help@arlut.utexas.edu, so there is a web archive of the
question and answer.

I'll try to set the 'reply-to:' header for this message so that it
will go to ganymede-help@arlut.utexas.edu but if I don't get it right
I hope you'll send your response there anyway.

| Jon,
| There is actuallt a subnet object Tolentine (UNIT and PS), and its
| there in the server, also it appears on the right hand side of the
| invid field. Also when i rum xmlclient it doesnt give me an error ....i

The 'right side' (the available choices side) of the Subnet-ID invid
field when you are editing the 153.101.0.0 Address object with the
Ganymede client, you mean?

| think i messed up with permissions model....but cant figure out where!!!
| Lemme summarize everything.........There is a whole list of subnet
| objects in the server one of them is Tolentine "(UNIT and PS)"....and i
| have a invid field in an other object called "Address" which points
| towards the subnet objects....
| So now when i send the data to the server thru xmlclient
|
|
| <object type="Address" id="153.101.0.0">
| | <A-ID>4949</A-ID>
| | <HardWare-ID>005004da4841</HardWare-ID>
| | <Dynamic>true</Dynamic>
| | <Subnet-ID>
| | <invid type="Subnet" id="Tolentine (UNIT and PS)"/>
| | </Subnet-ID>
| | <HostName>
| | <string val="tol-24.unit.villanova.edu"/>
| | </HostName>
| | <PTR-ID>tol-24.unit.villanova.edu</PTR-ID>
| | <SOA-ID>
| | <invid type="Start_of_Authority" id="villanova.edu"/>
| | </SOA-ID>
| | <TTL>3600</TTL>
| | <HostNumber><ip val="153.104.64.39"/></HostNumber>
| | <Owner>kbelen</Owner>
| | </object>
|
|
| It doesnt show me any error but doesnt add the valid subnet entry to
| the field....the same is happening to each and every invid field in the
| server...just dont know why?? I will try to reinstall the server if
| nothing works!!!!!!

Don't reinstall, please. If there is a problem we won't be able to
figure it out that way.

You are using the Ganymede 1.0.8 release I put on the server, I assume?

I have several more questions. Does the 153.101.0.0 Address object
exist on the server before you run the xmlclient on the file? What,
exactly, is in the xml file? Is it just the 153.101.0.0 Address
object you included in your email, or is there more? Does the
Subnet-ID field in the 153.101.0.0 Address object have any values at
all when you look at it with the Ganymede client, or is it empty?
Does loading xml files with the xmlclient do anything at all?

When you look at the 153.101.0.0 Address object in the Ganymede
client, can you see any changes made to it when you look at the
history panel and click on the 'Show History' and 'Show Transactional
History' buttons?

When you say 'each and every invid field' in the server, do you really
mean that, or do you mean 'each and every Subnet-ID invid field in
Address objects when I try loading Address objects into the server
using xmlclient'? What sort of tests have you done to lead you to
think that xmlclient is failing to work on any invid fields?

What is the XML schema definition for the Subnet object type?

| Hope i explained this clearly...

I still need a *lot* more information. You basically just repeated
what you had already told me. It would be helpful to get a complete
xmlclient -dump of your database, both before and after you try
running xmlclient to load your test data.

Again, please be sure and send your response to
ganymede-help@arlut.utexas.edu.

| Thanks
| Gaurav
